MP2 - Nature of Life

At iCAN we understand the importance of being in nature, and our learning facilitators often take the learning outdoors wherever possible. As part of their current learning journey unit, Nature of Life, our Year 3 and 4 learners have been exploring and identifying a range of plants and creatures in the garden.

They later carried out their own investigation which tested different potting mixes. Learners created a range of different mixes, ranging from soil and compost, water, and sand. They will continue to monitor their plant experiments over the next few weeks and observe how these have affected the growth.

The learners have been making and using their own home-made compost throughout the year. Made from their snack time fruit and vegetable scraps, self- selected monitors help to turn and maintain the compost during their break and lunch times. Much of this compost goes on the iCAN garden and some of it is used in the Caught You Being reward soil mix for the chilli and sunflower pots.
